UAE Standardises Visa Overstay Fines in 2026 with Uniform Daily Penalty

 



Dubai, UAE – 2026: The United Arab Emirates has introduced a significant update to its immigration compliance framework by standardizing visa overstay fines across all Emirates and visa categories. The reform, implemented by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Ports Security (ICP), establishes a flat overstay fine of AED 50 per day for individuals who remain in the country beyond the validity of their visa. This replaces the previous system, under which penalties varied depending on visa type and issuing authority.

Under the new regulation, the daily fine applies uniformly to tourist visas, visit visas, and residence permits. The penalty begins accruing from the first day following visa expiry and continues until the individual either exits the country or regularizes their immigration status. Authorities have clarified that payments can be made through official immigration portals, designated service centers, or at airport counters prior to departure, ensuring streamlined settlement procedures.

The standardization aims to enhance transparency, eliminate confusion, and create a predictable compliance structure for residents, visitors, and employers. By introducing a consistent penalty rate nationwide, the UAE seeks to simplify enforcement mechanisms and reduce administrative ambiguity that previously arose from differing fine structures across jurisdictions.

Officials have emphasized that the reform forms part of the country’s broader immigration modernization strategy, which includes digital service expansion and improved border management systems. The objective is to strengthen regulatory clarity while maintaining the UAE’s reputation as a secure and well-governed global destination for tourism, business, and long-term residency.

Residents and visitors are advised to closely monitor visa validity dates and initiate renewal or status adjustment procedures well in advance of expiry. Immigration authorities have reiterated the importance of using official government channels for all visa-related services and cautioned against relying on unauthorized intermediaries.
