F-1 Student Visas and OTP Under Trump
F-1 Student Visas and OTP Under Trump
With President Trump back in the Oval Office, international students are increasingly concerned about potential travel bans and immigration restrictions.
Travel Ban
On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed a new Executive Order issuing a 60-day study to identify "countries throughout the world for which vetting and screening information is so deficient as to warrant a partial or full suspension on the admission of nationals from those countries."
Many students are fearful that this is essentially a reinstatement of the 2017 Muslim Ban that disrupted countless lives, affecting their education and residency in the U.S.
Concerns About OTP
International students are also concerned about the future of the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, which allows F-1 students to work in the U.S. for up to three years in STEM fields. There is growing demand from MAGA supporters to abolish programs such as OTP and H-1B that take jobs away from American workers. As the future of OTP under President Trump's second term remains uncertain, students are increasingly exploring stable alternatives like the EB-5 program.
The EB-5 Program: A Long-Term Solution
The EB-5 program offers a pathway to permanent U.S. residency. By investing $800,000 through a payment plan in a qualifying U.S. real estate project, students and their families can obtain Green Cards, safeguarding against travel bans and future immigration restrictions. A Green Card offers stability, freedom to travel, and the potential to apply for U.S. citizenship.
